HELP US END OPIOID MISUSE AND ADDICTION

Opioids are powerful pain-killing drugs which may include legally prescribed drugs like oxycodone, hydrocodone, codeine, morphine, fentanyl to heroin, the illegal street drug. 

 

 

PROGRAM GOAL:

 

To educate residents in Pulaski, Saline, Garland, and Jefferson Counties about the dangers of Rx abuse through increasing knowledge by 50% about substance misuse and abuse.  

 

 

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES:

 

  • Conduct workshops, seminars, strategic planning, parenting classes and model programs in schools to improve social and decision-making capabilities.

  • Increase skills by 50% among health care professionals and law enforcement to provide prevention/intervention to parents and youth.

  • Increase skills by 50% among youth to use positive decision making when confronted with Rx/Opioid drug abuse by peers.

  • Enhance protection against Rx abuse and addiction by supporting and promoting drug­ free activities that commemorate the power of living drug-free.

  • Create and support mentoring peer group initiatives and activities, including Rx abuse recovery programs and disseminate list in community.

  • Improve barriers to reduce access to Rx drugs in targeted communities.  

  • Increase knowledge by 50% among realtors and sellers to prevent access to their prescription medicines when they are holding open houses.

  • Increase knowledge by 50% among teachers and parents to prevent access to their prescription medicines when they are holding open houses.

  • Support formal changes in written policies, laws and procedures aimed at preventing current and future Rx abuse.

  • Increase awareness by 50% among businesses, non-profits and school boards and elected officials to review practices and policies that promote drug-free environments.

 

 

PREVENTING OPIOID OVERDOSE:

 

  • The following tips can help you or a loved one avoid opioid overdose: 

  • Take medicine as prescribed by your practitioner     Do not take more medication or take it more often than instructed

  • Never mix pain medicine with alcohol, sleeping pills, or illicit substances

  • Never take anyone else's medication

  • Prevent children and pets from accidental ingestion by storing your medication out of reach

  • Dispose of unused medication safely
